Aaron’s Journal: Leaving Priscilla – Again

During my freshman year at MIT, most of the guys in my dorm would stay up insanely late trying to think up an idea that would change the world. Unfortunately, this pursuit usually just turned into betting someone to do something stupid. Case in point, I remember one night I bet my friend Gary 50 bucks that he couldn’t down three flaming vodka shots in under a minute. He gladly accepted the challenge and we set them ablaze. However, as we were stupid college freshmen, we didn’t know that you have to blow out the flame before drinking and sadly, Gary didn’t realize this until it was too late. Terrified, he spit the vodka out – momentarily resembling a screaming dragon – and lit the common room ping-pong table on fire. Luckily, someone else grabbed a fire extinguisher while I hid in the corner laughing, fairly certain I had just witnessed the best fire story of my life. Continue reading

NBC’s Revolution Preview – What can we expect?

Are you looking forward to NBC’s big budget new series launching this fall? Revolution is the ground-breaking new blockbuster from LOST producer JJ Abrams. The new science fiction drama series will debut on September 17th 2012 but what can we expect from this exciting new show?

Today we will preview the first few episodes of Series One. We will learn about the characters, the plot and discover more of what we can look forward to in this fascinating new programme. Warning this article may contain some spoilers.

Revolution – The first episodes

Episode one will introduce the viewers to the main characters. We join the story some 15 years after the blackout, although the narrative uses flashbacks to help us explore their backgrounds in further detail. The main protagonists centre on the Matheson family, who after 15 years without power have become farmers at the heart of a small community. Ben Matheson (Tim Guinee) is the family head, and helps care for his daughter Charlie (Tracy Spiridakos) and son Danny (Graham Rogers). With local governments extinct, rogue militia groups control the land. Unfortunately in the first episode we watch helplessly as Ben is visited by one of the militia leaders, Captain Tom Neville (Giancarlo Esposito) who demands that Ben must leave the village and come with him at once.
Without spoiling what happens in these first few scenes, Ben tells his daughter Charlie that she must begin an epic journey to Chicago to track down her long lost uncle. Armed with a sacred locket, Charlie sets off on her mission accompanied by local townsfolk Maggie (Anna Lise Phillips) and Aaron (Zak Orth). Along their way they meet a fellow traveller called Nate (J. D. Pardo), however Maggie has her reserves as to whether they can trust their new friend.

Eventually the group reach Chicago and locate

Charlie’s uncle Miles (Billy Burke). However he is not best pleased to meet his new family member and also has reservations over Nate. During the initial episodes we will uncover a whole of host of information via flashbacks which help us better understand our characters actions. We will discover why Charlie’s dad gave her his most important sacred locket and why Miles is reluctant to leave Chicago and return back to Charlie’s home.

Our Revolution preview thoughts:

The Revolution TV series has a lot of expectations on it and needs to be a hit in the American ratings. We witnessed last year with Fox’s Terra Nova what happens if a new science fiction series doesn’t perform well. Fortunately, we believe that Revolution will be a huge success. It has so much potential including a superb cast, stunning sci-fi settings and engaging original story plot. However the biggest attraction has got to be having producer JJ Abrams on board. The similarities of cult show LOST are here in abundance and for LOST fans there has yet to be a TV show that can satisfy their cravings. NBC’s Revolution will surely take that crown when it premieres this fall.

Maria Howell (Grace)

Grace (Revolution Cast)

Maria Howell stars as Grace in NBC’s “Revolution.” Howell is an actor, singer and voiceover artist. She is best known as the choir soloist from the movie “The Color Purple.”

Life and career

mariahowell.com: Some may be inspired to call her best kept secret, but anyone who leaves an imprint on every medium from radio, stage and television to the Hollywood screen is hardly incognito. Howell’s talent has been featured as a nightclub singer “Goldie”, in “The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles“, produced by George Lucas (Chicago and NY episodes, which also features veteran actor Keith David). Other roles on the small screen include “Linda”, where she plays alongside master performers Richard Thomas (The Waltons) and Virginia Madsen (Sideways) and in “Scattered Dreams” with Tyne Daly (Judging Amy) and Alicia Silverstone (Clueless and Beauty Shop).

Her credibility as a true thespian flourished when she nailed a coveted role as the daughter of Maya Angelou’s character in Langston Hughes’ “Tambourines to Glory” stage play. She has worked with famed actor, director and producer, Tyler Perry in film, “Daddy’s Little Girls” and in his TV sitcoms “Meet the Browns” and “House of Payne” (TBS).

She has appeared alongside actress Regina King, as her best friend in Lifetime Television’s “Living Proof”, starring Harry Connick, Jr. More credits she adds to her resume are, “Drop Dead Diva” (Lifetime), “Past Life” (FOX), “Vampire Diaries” (CW) and “The Blind Side”, starring Sandra Bullock, “Detroit 1-8-7″ (ABC), “The Game” (BET). “Field of Vision” (NBC), “Single Ladies” (VH1), “Necessary Roughness” (USA). “What To Expect When You’re Expecting”, starring Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez, Chris Rock and Dennis Quaid (theatrical release May 2012). Also in May 2012, she will appear in the Hallmark Hall of Fame’s TV release of “Firelight”, starring Cuba Gooding, Jr., where she plays the part of Mrs. Easle.
